Dozens of Audubon Chapters Benefit from TogetherGreen Support in 2011
The third season of TogetherGreen just got underway and 33 Chapters in 19 states are poised to make a people-powered conservation difference in the year ahead, thanks to support from this Audubon-Toyota alliance.
Since TogetherGreen launched in March 2008, the program has provided leadership training, conservation education and outreach, volunteer events, and grant funding to enable Chapters to generate impressive new initiatives and results.
Chapters have the opportunity to apply for three areas of TogetherGreen funding:
- Innovation Grants support creative, collaborative projects that engage new audiences and contribute to significant gains in habitat, water, and energy conservation.
- Fellowships provide individuals with tools, networking, and professional development opportunities to advance their conservation leadership skills; and
- Volunteer Days grants provide support for hands-on, local conservation events at approximately 40 sites throughout the year.
During the recent competitive application reviews, Chapters received 42% of nearly $1.1 million in Innovation Grants funding; 20% of the Fellowships (which are also open to leaders outside of the Audubon network); and 34% of Volunteer Days funding.
Thirty-three Chapters will be taking part in TogetherGreen activities during the third year of the program. Their efforts will be focused on achieving the goals of TogetherGreen, including improving habitat and water quality, and conserving energy, reaching new or diverse audience not typically involved in conservation activities, engaging community volunteers in addressing a conservation issue, and strengthening collaboration among partner organizations.
Congratulations to Audubon Society of Portland, Los Angeles Audubon, and New York City Audubon for receiving the triple crown of funding – support from all three TogetherGreen program areas.
We invite you to become part of the TogetherGreen program by applying for Year IV activities. Visit www.togethergreen.org in February for 2011 application deadlines and information about the Innovation Grants and Fellowship programs. Volunteer Days applications will also be available in February 2011 and announced to Chapter Leaders via email.
